Why is this webinar important to your practice?
Learners that complete this webinar will be able to describe how proteomic biomarkers may be used to evaluate drug benefits and adverse effects during clinical development. This activity will examine evidence from multiple clinical trials and drug classes demonstrating the potential of proteomic measures to detect treatment effects earlier and with fewer participants than traditional clinical outcome studies and discuss their potential application in clinical research and drug development.

- Describe the challenges associated with traditional drug development and explain how proteomic biomarkers may enable earlier detection of drug efficacy and safety signals;
- Explain the principles of proteomic profiling and the development of tests for cardiovascular, renal, and cardiometabolic risk assessment;
- Identify evidence supporting the use of proteomic surrogate endpoints to predict therapeutic benefits and adverse effects across multiple drug classes.

Dr. Jessica Chadwick is a Staff Scientist at Illumina Inc, with deep expertise in clinical and translational research, proteomics, and biomarker discovery. Her work focuses on designing and executing large-scale proteomic studies and applying advanced data analysis to translate complex protein data into actionable biological insights that can help researchers make more informed and impactful decisions in precision health across multiple therapeutic areas, including cardiovascular, metabolic, oncology, and rare diseases. Through her work, Dr. Chadwick has demonstrated how protein-level measurements provide critical insights and can be used to bridge the gap between molecular data and patient outcomes, by enabling a more direct understanding of biological function and disease mechanisms.

Jiexin (Jason) Deng received a PhD in pharmacometrics from the University of Florida Center for Pharmacometrics & Systems Pharmacology. After completing a PhD, Dr. Deng worked for 5 years in Pfizer's clinical pharmacology group for rare diseases. Currently, he is a Yellow-River scholar at Henan University in Kaifeng, China, which is a research position for attracting high-level talent from outside Henan University. Apart from serving as a member of the Education Committee at ACCP, Dr. Deng also serves as a member of the Quantitative Pharmacology Professional Committee of the Chinese Pharmacological Society.
